BGMEA cheques for families of fire victims |

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Monday handed over cheques for Tk. 58,000 among each of the family members of 12 workers killed in a fire incident at Globe Knitting (BD) Ltd, at Banani on August 27 last year, reports BSS. BGMEA President Anisur Rahman Sinha, First Vice President Alhaj Khalilur Rahman, Director Tipu Munshi, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Safety Measures Ali Azam Khan, Managing Director of Globe Knitting Dr. ANM Mosleh Uddin and Director of Rose Fashions Ltd. M. Sarwar Kamal handed over the cheques. The compensation of Tk. 58,000 was shared 50-50 by BGMEA and garment factory owners. In the function, Rose Fashions Ltd. also handed over a compensation cheque to the family members of Suborna Papia who was killed in a fire incident in the factory two years back, said a press release. Speaking on the occasion, the BGMEA President called upon the factory owners to take all necessary measures, including setting up alternative staircases for exit and installation of fire-fighting equipment to avoid fire accidents and deaths of garment worker.
